Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hardcourt

A revitalized Medvedev claimed his first trophy for over two years with success over opponent Moutet in the competition title decider.

The athlete, a former number one, has experienced a torrid period, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and experiencing a setback at the American major.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in especial - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with former mentor his previous coach.

Currently collaborating with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - culminating in a tightly fought competitive triumph over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This marks his maiden trophy after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court since that period of the previous year.

The win also signifies the Russian has won 21 championships at 21 various competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my two daughters together, so to get a trophy is especially meaningful," commented ranked player Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I got when my child her name was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, including in the German tournament in the past months.

His counter-punching approach and frequent reactions on the tennis court had led some to doubt if his ability to compete at the highest level was over.

Yet the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and perform assertively, backed up by an improved service.

The champion recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, taking four of the last five points to take the lead.

Both players swapped break points in the second set before the challenger, striving for his first ATP Tour title, gained dominance to create a decider.

The opponent rescued 4 initial chances in a tight deciding set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to secure the win.

Appropriately, the winner secured victory with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to control a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
