PSG Overcomes Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening cup on fourteen different occasions.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past Marseille in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a comfortable triumph in the match between the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup holders after the French winger opened the net in the opening stages.

However, Marseille struck two times late to take a surprise advantage. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a vital equaliser in the final moments to send the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping crucial attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 shootout win.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the past 13 years.
