Area Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement report they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then found many other marked cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests indicate the liquid was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; investigators are not yet aware of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they added.
City officials said they were trying "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the public for tips.
An important political figure stated the vandalism made him speechless and needed to be solved quickly.
"This incident hits the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, referring to the death of nine victims by a assailant aiming at residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
